2015 Sparkling Pinot Noir

$42.00

Somerled Sparkling Pinot Noir 2015: Penny and Paul Henschke grow lovely pinot noir on their Summertown vineyard. This is a very high vineyard at about 600m above sea level, and at that height is very close to being the highest vineyard in SA. And that makes it one of the very coldest, and so it’s perfect for growing pinot noir grapes for making super premium sparkling wine. And it’s where the grapes for Somerled sparkling come from! The 2015 is typical of the Somerled sparkling, being 100% pinot noir (itself rather unusual in Australian sparklings – most by far are a blend of chardonnay and pinot noir). Slightly differing from our previous vintages is I think it’s a little more full flavoured, which I for one am enjoying immensely. It’s very dry as usual and has a fineness to it that all good wines of this style should have. The “bead” is very fine and very persistent, making it a fabulous aperitif wine. Cheers for now, Rob Moody
