Somerled Reserve Shiraz 2012: Due to their eye-catching quality, two barrels of Somerled Shiraz 2012 were separated in the barrel hall to start their own journey. Treated to slightly newer oak and over 30 months in barrel, the wine was bottled and crowned the Somerled Reserve Shiraz. It’s very dark in colour, inky and dense. The nose is starting to open up beautifully due to several years of bottle age and is a nice combination of McLaren Vale spicy fruit and oak, with these characters now very nicely integrated and developed. The palate is extremely rich, concentrated and long, with soft but obvious supporting tannins. Stunning now and continuing to its peak in 2022, after which it will be wonderful drinking ‘til at least 2030.
